Built in 1173, the famous lean of the Tower of Pisa was unintentional.

The tilt is attributed to the bell tower's foundation having been built on soft subsoil, which could not effectively hold up its weight. In fact, the tower isn’t the only structure with a slight tilt, though the others are significantly less noticeable.

The building is also famous for Galileo Gallilei's cannonball experiment, used to demonstrate that "the speed of descent is independent of an object's mass."
