The city’s architecture is riveting, combining elements of the Gothic and Baroque traditions. One of the better known sites, Heidelberg Castle is a Gothic and Renaissance masterpiece, dating as far back as the 1100s. Despite withering many battles and wars, it still stands today as a once almighty fortress, its regal disposition not lost among its battle scars.
